90 minute tour on a beautiful historic boat. The commentary by the captain was very informative about the history of Amsterdam. Coffee, tea, juices, and sweet bread included as well as other drinks. Definitely worth the price!

What a great experience! Got a little bit of history in which helped explain some of the questions you had before you got on the tour. Highly recommend. Feels personal and private.

Wir sind am Morgen durch die verschiedenen Grachten gefahren. Draußen war es kalt, aber das Boot war gut geheizt. Tony wusste zahlreiche Geschichten zu den Gebäuden und Hausbooten zu erzählen, die wir unterwegs gesehen haben. Es gab frischen, heißen Kaffee und sehr leckeres Brot mit Zimt.

I have taken the morning canal cruise and it was a lovely experience. Beautiful views, interesting stories from the captain. I didn't notice when the time has passed and the tour was over. I can definitely recommend to anyone who would like to get a canal cruise to go to Captain Dave's 🙂

My husband, son and I loved Captain Dave's canal cruise! Our Captain, Jan, was fun and informative. It was great to see Amsterdam from the canals and learn so much history. There were snacks and an open bar. This was one of our favorite things we did while in Amsterdam.

THE Best Canal Cruise! This is the only canal cruise I've been on, but I'm sure it's the best. We had a great time. It's a small, historic, elegant boat which only holds an intimate group of 12 max. We had 8 total on our cruise on a sunny Friday morning. Captain Dave was fantastic. He is welcoming and friendly. Not only does he have a lengthy history on the water, but his narration sounds fresh and enthusiastic - a surprise since he does this several times a day. It's clear that he loves what he does. The coffee, juice and sugar bread were a cozy bonus - the perfect accompaniment on a chilly morning.

We loved Captain Dave! He has so many fun, interesting facts about Amsterdam. He is extremely personable and has a great personality. We are so happy we took this tour with him!

Captain Dave's canal cruise was the ideal way to spend our first afternoon in Amsterdam. My family was tired from our overnight flight and this was the perfect activity - relaxing and educational! Captain Dave was a welcoming host who immediately made us feel comfortable aboard his beautiful boat. He offered delicious refreshments, allowed our small group to weigh in on the course our canal cruise would take and even let our children (aged 9 and 10) steer the boat! What a beautiful way to experience the gorgeous canals and architecture of Amsterdam. I highly recommend this canal cruise!

Me and my niece did the early morning tour and it was excellent. Dave is very friendly and also knows so much about the area. We also really enjoyed the coffee, tea and fresh juice - plus the sugar bread (I can’t remember the name!). Also it was a very cold February morning but the boat was lovely and warm and sooo comfy. Thank you Captain Dave!

Highly recommend! Captain Dave was an INCREDIBLE tour guide and had a great mix of education and humour! PLEASE BOOK THIS TOUR, you won’t regret it! The boat was very intimate (there was room for 12) verses other tours (between 30-50+) so the tour was much more personal. And the smaller boat size meant you got to explore more of the canals! Also, Dave was able to recommend lots of activities to fill your day with (museums, bars, etc) and favourite local hotspots!

Great personality, very inviting to guests, amazing stories. We did the 8 am cruise which was fantastic as we had the canals mainly to ourselves, did not see a single other tourist boat. We wish Captain Dave a fruitful future on his beautiful boat. He scored an 11/10 from us.

Two words to describe this tour. CHILL and civilized. First of all, I never thought I would do a canal tour. It felt so touristy but then I asked myself: Don't you want to see Amsterdam from a canal perspective? So I found these guys and thank god. They are really cool. It was relaxing seeing the city this way. It’s intimate. The Captain has a ton of info to share but they gauge it according to who is on board. You will not be overwhelmed and there is no bullhorn. You will not be squished into a plastic seat for 90 minutes. Captain Jasper was rushed and not showy. I loved that he knew all the other Captains on the canal. There's a whole vibe on the water that I really loved. I was sitting beside two people from Sacremento and I'm from Berkeley so there was that.

Hassan was amazing! He explained a lot of interesting information about Amsterdam that we didn’t know. He was very friendly and had a very positive attitude. The boat was heated and very comfortable, offering plenty of options for hot and cold drinks, including coffee with milk, wine, beer, soft drinks, hot chocolate, juices, and cake. We really enjoyed the experience, highly recommend it, it’s absolutely worth it, and since it’s a small group, it makes the experience more personalized.

The cruise was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We arrived slightly early and our guide, Hassan, was kind enough to invite us onto the boat which was nice and warm. He offered us fresh juice and sugar bread, coffee, tea, chocolate milk and other drinks. Our group of 10 consisted of a diverse group of interesting people. Hassan was a very engaging guide. He was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of fun and interesting facts. He also gave us good recommendations on what to do and where to eat. Highly recommended!

Just did this tour this morning and it was exactly what I was after! Tony was a fantastic local tour guide, he took us through the whole history of Amsterdam. You’re able to have coffee, tea, sugar bread etc. He also gave recommendations for restaurants, bars, cafes that are away from tiktok popularity and I’m now enjoying my coffee and apple pie in a cafe he recommended- cafe ‘t papeneiland (would also recommend, it’s lovely) Thank you Tony!!!

It was an incredible experience..... the host was very entertaining and witty! If it's your first time or even been to Amsterdam before, it's still worth the trip so much you can learn in one ride.

So much more than just a history and architectural tour!! We are visiting and Jan gave us the most authentic behind the scenes. Meanwhile, my cousins who is local, exclaims each time is different. The open bar also hits different with both alcohol and N/A options. Thank you for a memorable time!

Captain Dave was an amazing tour guide!!! We ended up with a private tour with our two kids. He especially brought us to the back of a zoo where we saw a few giraffes! He also brought us to a cat shelter on the river just for my daughter who absolutely loves cats! We saw a replica pirate ship for my son who was interested in it! He gave us ideas of things we can do in Amsterdam for us and our kids! He taught us about the history of the boat, which was amazing! He specialized the whole boat ride so the kids should love it!!! Dave was an absolutely wonderful tour guide! He also showed us the history of Amsterdam! He deserved 5 stars ⭐️!!!!

Excellent tour The 10 am tour with Captain Tony was by far the best canal tour choice! It was like having a trusted family member giving us a tour rather than an impersonal recording. Fun experience, not your average canal boat tour

We had a wonderful experience with this cruise company! Our tour guide, Roman, was absolutely fantastic! Very funny & incredibly knowledgable about the area. We really enjoyed the comfortable, personalized vibe that we experienced here. There were only 7 other people in the boat with us (we were a party of 4), so we didn't get lost in the shuffle and we felt like the tour guide had time to interact with us personally. Also, he gave us the tour himself, with little "insider info" bits sprinkled throughout, and apparently on the larger cruises it's just an audio recording they play for you. Overall if you're looking for a smaller, comfortable vibe, I would highly recommend this company!

I booked this trip over all others because I wanted a more personal experience. I was visiting Amsterdam with my mother, brother and girlfriend during the Festival of Lights. I highly recommend spending a little more to get what felt like a personal guide of the lights. There were 11 of us and it was an intimate gathering of tourists guided by Tony, as Captain Dave was on a day off, look out Dave your job is definitely at risk with such a storyteller in Tony. The boat itself lends to a great experience, it has enough space to go outside for photo opportunities, a bathroom and galley space for mulled wine and a fridge with cold drinks. We had traditional cookies also. The tour took place at 8.30pm and the canal was quieter, but still some of the boats that passed were packed like sardines. I highly recommend this tour if you want that extra special service of storytelling, the intimate gathering of being able to hear everything and definitely felt I got my money's worth. Well done to all involved, eat tour, highly recommend

On a cold wet morning, cruising around the canals on Captain Dave’s beautiful boat was the perfect way to see the city whilst staying warm and dry. Well worth it.

A perfect canal tour on a cold winter’s day. Our tour guide was not Dave but Jan. He was informative, interesting and humorous. This boat tour was a highlight of our Amsterdam stay.

I cannot say enough nice things about this tour. Our guide (Tony) was knowledgeable and fun. Kind of like a really cool history teacher. Tony even provided coffe/juice/tea and pound cake. Seats were comfortable and roomy.

I would highly recommend this experience to any of my friends visiting Amsterdam. We did not have Captain Dave and instead were hosted by Captain Jan. He is meant for this job with a perfect balance of knowledge, charisma, and humor! The boat itself feels cozy and seats about 12 people, which made it much more personable as compared to some of the larger tour boats we passed on the waters. I learned a lot about the history of Amsterdam on this tour and was also able to ask a few questions in the moment. Captain Dave's contribution of sugar bread from a city 1.5 hours away was a nice added touch!

Dave is an excellent host! His boat is very comfortable. The tour is the perfect length. A morning tour is especially nice because the canals are less crowded.

This was my second time cruising with captain Dave. I went in 2018 with friends and it was the highlight of our trip. Our 2024 cruise was absolutely magical. The views that you get from the boat are stunning and unlike any other. Don't fall for the big boat tours that are an hour. Captain Dave provides a much more personalized experience and can navigate the smaller canals in his boat. I highly recommend this experience if there is space.

Captain Jon was an amazing skipper. It was also the first day of the Lights Festival, and we saw some fascinating and unique pieces. The boat had a rich history as well. Overall, this is definitely a must-try for anyone who wants to explore Amsterdam by boat and cruise through the canals. Plus, there was an open bar with free drinks, which was amazing! I tried mulled wine for the first time, and it was a real treat.

Our original trip was rescheduled and Captain Dave made sure we had options to that still fit into our schedule. We got assigned to Captain Jon, an amazing storyteller and brilliant skipper. We also luckily got to ride at the first night of the light festival. The boat had a rich history and we felt very lucky to be able to be on it. It is beautifully maintained. We also had a bar full of free drinks. The mulled wine was excellent.
On another note, Captain Jon was friendly, warm, funny and brilliant. He gave us amazing tips on what else to see and where to go in the city. He also answered all our questions even the historical ones. He walked us through all the exhibits on the canals as part of the lights festival. We felt so lucky to be on the boat and be a part of his tour. Recommend this 10/10.

We had an amazing time with Captain Romin on the Dauphin - a charming saloon boat from 1910 with mostly original woodwork. He was lovely and kind - explaining and sharing with us about the canals and houseboats as well as the history of Amsterdam in such an engaging manner. There was plenty to drink and snacks as well and our 90 minutes just flew by. Highly recommend and will try a morning cruise next time we return to Amsterdam. On a separate note, Captain Dave was extremely helpful in ensuring that we could take the tour at our preferred time, given our tight schedules - much appreciated.

So glad we found this tour and didn’t end up on one of those large “cattle truck” boats with the recorded commentary. Our cruise left at 0800, and whilst this seemed a tad early, it was actually the perfect time, we only saw 1 other boat and that was towards the end so the water was dead calm and flat and the reflections off the water were perfect. Our Captain was Hassan an Amsterdam native who was obviously intelligent and educated and a natural communicator, injecting humour into a very comprehensive narrative about his city’s past and present, the coffee was good and the cake delicious but the stand out was the boat the Royal Jonckvrouw, with only 12 passengers (from all over the globe) the warm cabin felt more like a lounge room than the tour bus that a bigger boat would certainly have been.
