Fun friendly tour in the canals with the younger version of Captain Dave. Drinks and loos on board the jonckvrouw which was a great ship to sit out the back in open air and watch buildings and boats go by. Great commentary, funny and tailored to the nationalities on board. Lots of fun!

Captain Dave’s canal tour was one of the highlights of our Amsterdam trip. The small group size made a huge difference — it felt personal and relaxed rather than like a cattle-call tourist experience. Our guide was warm, engaging, and clearly knew the city inside and out, sharing stories and history that gave real depth to everything we floated past.The fact that drinks were included in the price was a lovely bonus — nothing better than a cold beer drifting through the canals. This tour was a highlight of our time in Amsterdam. Coffee, other drinks, and a pastry are included. The boat is comfortable, historic, and charming. Our guide had great information and answered all the questions we had. This is a smaller company and every time I saw a larger boat go by, I was grateful we chose Captain Dave. Read about this experience on a travel vlog and it did not disappoint. It was a great way to start our day in Amsterdam, they were so informative and I learned so much about the culture, architecture, and history. The boat is also very historical and has an amazing story of its own. Amsterdam is absolutely more beautiful from the water, I would definitely recommend this boat tour over the large companies.

So enjoyable in good company and a historic boat, learned all lot about Dutch history, boating and life from Gisela. Thoroughly enjoyed the early morning boat ride. Worth it if you are on the fence. Drink and sugar bread included so no need to eat before either!

A true 5-star day on the Amsterdam canals!Huge shoutout to Captain Jan Meenhorst on the Captain Dave Amsterdam "Cruise Like a Local" tour! This wasn't your average tourist cruise. With only 12 people on board, an open bar, and zero scripts, it felt exactly like a local friend was showing us around his favorite hidden spots in the city. Jan kept us laughing the entire time with great stories and funny anecdotes. If you're heading to Amsterdam, do yourself a favor and book this trip!

We recently took an early morning tour with Captain Dave Amsterdam. Our Captain Gisela was great. Gracious, experienced, and shared interesting information with the guests as we cruised the canals in the early morning. We very much enjoyed having the canals almost to ourselves from 8am to 9:30am. I highly recommend the early morning tour on Jonckvrouw. It's a very nice, quiet, boat. The canals were not busy and our tour was intimate due to the small number of passengers they accept per tour. Our guide (sorry I don't recall her name) was fun and very knowledgeable and showed serious piloting skills navigating through some of the narrow passages.These smaller tours are great and much more appealing than the big tour boats which just feel like the usual "tourist" fodder.

Dave wasn't on our boat that day — a woman was filling in, and honestly she was a star. Knowledgeable, warm, funny, and clearly in her element on the water. She pointed out things we never would have noticed on our own and kept the whole boat engaged the entire time.The canal cruise itself was beautiful — the perfect way to see Amsterdam from a different angle — but she's the reason this is a 5-star review and not just a nice boat ride. Her name was complicated and to be honest, I cannot remember it, but whatever her name is, she deserves the credit.Highly recommend. Book it.

The boat cruise was very good. The boat itself is an Amsterdam landmark as it was previously owned by the city of Amsterdam and was used by the mayor to host dignitaries. It has cover for shade and also had a toilet on board.Gisella, the skipper, was very knowledgeable and provided great information throughout the tour. She was also very personable and friendly. Drinks including beer, water and other options were readily available and helped keep us cool during an unseasonably hot day in Amsterdam. I would definitely recommend this tour if you are looking to enjoy the canals and river of Amsterdam.

This is a so much better experience than the large canal tours with dozens of people. (Done that.) This small, beautifully restored boat took eight tourists who informally got to know each other, with a native host that could've have been more friendly or knowledgeable. Like sitting in a scenic living room over cake with friends.

Really fun and informative small group canal trip on 1920's vintage boat. Our captain Jan shared a lot of the local history, was very engaging and made sure we all had a memorable experience. Highly recommend this over the larger impersonal canal trips.
