Our second time on this boat tour. We had Hasan and he did a great job on a chilly but beautiful morning. I preferred the morning to the evening slightly... a bit quieter. Both are wonderful though and highly recommend taking this small boat vs the larger tourist vessels.

Imagine a brisk morning on beautiful wooden boat, just 12 passengers, coffee, juice and apple cake, with light jazz playing in the background while you cruise the serene canals before the hustle and bustle of the day has started. This is Captain Dave’s cruise - the only boat to do an 8am tour, I might add. This is a gem not to be missed if you want to take in the beauty of Amsterdam and the canals. First time in Amsterdam, and this canal tour was even better than expected. Captain Tony was very knowledgeable and friendly. He provided the much expected historical detail, and his commentary was very engaging. The Jonvkvrouw is a beautiful vessel and has its own history, which was a bonus historical detail that I didn’t expect. I would actually do it again when we visit Amsterdam again.

Great Experience We booked a 10 AM tour on a chilly morning and we were so glad that we did. Tony was our captain and he was fun and engaging and really knowledgeable about Amsterdam and its history. The boat was warm and comfortable and we enjoyed coffee and delicious sweet bread throughout the cruise. There were only six other passengers and it was interesting to meet them. The boat itself is beautiful and the route that we took provided us with lots of interesting stories and information. We would highly recommend this cruise company. You won't be disappointed.

90 minute tour on a beautiful historic boat. The commentary by the captain was very informative about the history of Amsterdam. Coffee, tea, juices, and sweet bread included as well as other drinks. Definitely worth the price!

Wir sind am Morgen durch die verschiedenen Grachten gefahren. Draußen war es kalt, aber das Boot war gut geheizt. Tony wusste zahlreiche Geschichten zu den Gebäuden und Hausbooten zu erzählen, die wir unterwegs gesehen haben. Es gab frischen, heißen Kaffee und sehr leckeres Brot mit Zimt.

I have taken the morning canal cruise and it was a lovely experience. Beautiful views, interesting stories from the captain. I didn't notice when the time has passed and the tour was over. I can definitely recommend to anyone who would like to get a canal cruise to go to Captain Dave's 🙂

How long does a boat tour last?

Most canal tours in Amsterdam last 60 minutes, usually following a fixed route. Our group tours, which offer flexible routes, typically take 90 minutes, while with a private tour, you can choose the duration—anywhere from 90 minutes to 6 hours, fully tailored to your preferences!

What will I see during the boat tour?

You’ll see iconic landmarks like the Anne Frank House, Westerkerk, the Skinny Bridge, and beautiful 17th-century canal houses. Our tours feature 4 flexible routes, so you’ll also experience the Amstel River, parts of the UNESCO-listed canal belt, and hidden gems throughout the city. At Captain Dave, we’re not just about the sights—we’re real storytellers, bringing the history and charm of Amsterdam to life as we cruise.

Are there different types of boat tours (e.g., day, night, or themed tours)?

Yes! We offer a unique early morning canal cruise at 8 AM (no other boats on the water!) and 10 AM, as well as our Cruise Like a Local tour—a fun afternoon or evening experience. We also offer special themed tours, such as the Light Festival in winter, and private group tours tailored to your needs.

Does the boat have a roof in case of rain?

Yes, the Jonckvrouw is a saloon boat with a solid sliding roof, so we cruise rain or shine! Additionally, the boat is fully covered, and we can slide the roof and windows open depending on the weather. No umbrellas are needed! You’ll enjoy the fun of an open sloop combined with the comfort of a salon boat, ensuring a great experience no matter the conditions.

Where do I meet the boat?

We’ll meet at Prinsengracht 397, on the odd-numbered side of the canal. Look for us on the water side, where the boat will be docked. We don’t be in a house, so please come directly to the boat. Simply follow the Google Maps link in your confirmation email or type Captain Dave Amsterdam into Google Maps.

If the boat isn’t there when you arrive, we may be bringing it around or finishing a previous trip. Double-check your confirmation for the correct date and address!
