This was an incredible tour, with a truly exceptional human! Captain Dave is knowledgeable, kind, and charismatic! He took time to explain many historical elements of Amsterdam, point out interesting facts along the route, and tailor our tour to our interests. This isn’t a large-boat tour - it’s a casual and intimate opportunity to hang out with a local who sails in the beautifully restored, historical Royal Jonckvrouw. Don’t look elsewhere, book this one!

I am so happy I chose Dave for the canal tour! He was timely, very friendly, and offered an insiders view of Amsterdam. His boat is very beautiful and provided great accommodations. I really appreciated his sense of humor while providing very interesting information about life and history of Amsterdam that I wouldn’t have otherwise heard. I would highly recommend Dave!

Highly recommended, it’s not like the official tours without any personal touch. Even though on Saturday it wasn’t Captain Dave who guided us, his colleague was extremely nice and could answer all of our questions. Hope he sees this picture!

So glad we found this tour and didn’t end up on one of those large “cattle truck” boats with the recorded commentary. Our cruise left at 0800, and whilst this seemed a tad early, it was actually the perfect time, we only saw 1 other boat and that was towards the end so the water was dead calm and flat and the reflections off the water were perfect. Our Captain was Hassan an Amsterdam native who was obviously intelligent and educated and a natural communicator, injecting humour into a very comprehensive narrative about his city’s past and present, the coffee was good and the cake delicious but the stand out was the boat the Royal Jonckvrouw, with only 12 passengers (from all over the globe) the warm cabin felt more like a lounge room than the tour bus that a bigger boat would certainly have been.

Was apprehensive about doing a canal tour, but this one exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend

Outstanding experience. My wife persuaded me to book the Captain Dave boat tour in Amsterdam, which was slightly more expensive than other providers. It was absolutely worth it. Captain Jan was a very attentive and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended!!!

We had a fantastic time with Captain Hassan cruising around on the historic Royal Lady. He was very informative and answered all our questions along the way. Our Captain was cheerful and energetic the whole ride and brought the history and culture of Amsterdam to life. It was awesome seeing the buildings and houseboats from the water and learning about how and why they were built and designed like that. There were snacks and an open bar provided too! This was the best thing I did in Amsterdam, and the dining and sightseeing suggestions at the end were amazing too.

This is a must-do experience for all first time visitors to Amsterdam! Even though it was cloudy during my trip, the sights from the canal were still magnificent, and the storytelling was top notch. We appreciated all the drinks and snacks provided to us as well. Next time I visit, I’m definitely doing this again!

Had a great time on the canal cruise with Captain Hassan. He was witty and informative. He provided wine and snacks. It was a great experience for the price.

Brought our two littles (5 and 3) and we all enjoyed! It was definitely more for an adult crowd, so children struggled to sit through the talking portion, but our captain did a nice job incorporating them. Drinks and snacks were great and we learned a lot!

Wonderful private tour with a fun and knowledgeable skipper! Our 2 hours private tour with the beautiful "Jonckvrouw" (Saturday November 2nd, 2024) was more than complete by the fun and knowledgeable skipper Hassan. He sailed us (6 adults and 2 young teens) through the Amsterdam canals with ease and no question remained unanswered. Highest recommendations!!

Dave was nice and very funny, very real, the tour was very informative, the food was good 🙂 everything went smoothly and the whole experience of cruising Amsterdam canals in the early morning is precious. Recommended.

Hassan gave the most amazing tour! Very knowledgeable on Dutch history and European history in general. Additionally, he is a great storyteller with a good sense of humor. I would recommend this tour for anyone wanting to do a canal tour. Had an absolute blast and would do it again on my next visit! 10/10

A Great Way To Spend The Morning! Spending the morning on peaceful canals with a knowledgeable and entertaining guide in a gorgeous historical boat is a perfect way to start an Amsterdam holiday! Five-star experience!

Captain Roman went out of his way to accommodate us which went a long way to make our trip exceptional. He was masterful in navigating the canals, all the while providing us with entertaining stories along the way. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to tour the canals.

The BEST boat tour in Amsterdam! Our captain for the tour was Hussain who was so friendly. He came and found us on the other side of the street as we had arrived early and were just sitting and waiting. This meant we got chance to chat to him and find out a little about the boat’s amazing history! The boat itself was beautifully furnished and had a large covered area (with windows that came down) and a small outside area at the back.There were 11 people on our trip which made it feel intimate. It also meant we didn’t have to listen to a commentary through headphones or not be able to hear it at all like on some of the larger boats. Out tour lasted 90 min and absolutely flew by. On board there were a range of drinks and some sugar bread which was nice. Captain Hussain had a great personality and told so many stories about the area and its history. We were also given some recommendations for lunch/dinner. Thank you so much for a fab time!

Being on the 6pm cruise, we had the privilege of starting in the light and finishing in the dark, seeing the beautiful sunset sky.
Hassan had high energy and it meant that everyone had a great time and we made new friends. These are experiences that are definitely more unique to these more personable boat trips that the large operators. Thank you so much!

This was a magical experience! My mom and I joined Captain Hassan and a small group for a beautiful morning cruise. We traveled in October, so it was still dark when we arrived at the boat, but the sun quickly rose, making for gorgeous photos on the canal.
Captain Hassan was a great host! He shared many stories about the history of the boat, the city and even shared dining recommendations for the rest of our trip. The sugar bread and coffee on board was delicious! This was a great way to see the city and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Amsterdam soon!

Had such a wonderful morning boat ride with Hassan. Top bloke, super charming, friendly, knowledgeable, resourceful and very good with remembering names. We were only 5 so it was such a personalized tour. Would do it again and again.

A lovely personalised cruise - forget the big ugly commercial ventures and do this one. A great cruise, this is the one to pick if you are looking for a unique experience, friendly and great local knowledge and great story telling. A beautiful and comfortable boat, everything was done to ensure a great experience for everyone. Great morning tea as well. They even went above and beyond to ensure a few late passangers didn't miss the trip.

We did 8 AM morning cruise and it was one of the best tours in our life. Our captain Dave (Hassan) was simply great. He was obviously somebody who lives in Amsterdam end enjoys it. He gave us plenty of fun facts , places to eat or just his personal perspective on living in the city. We had small 4 months old baby with us and they allowed us to take her on board free of charge.

Really Great Canal Tour! There are a great many canal tours to choose from, but we found this to be a fantastic choice and would thoroughly recommend it. The boat itself was beautiful and full of its own history, whilst our guide, Jan, shared his extensive knowledge of the canals, buildings and city in a very interesting and approachable way. Jan also shared his knowledge on wider issues and on the history of his country.A great tour!

The cruise is leisurely and enjoyable. Lots of interesting information. But I didn’t get Captain Dave on our cruise as I expected. Someone else took his place. I found that part disappointing.

I highly recommend the early morning cruise. The city is very peaceful with no other boats on the canals. Our captain, Jan, was fantastic. Not only was he extremely knowledgable about the history of Amsterdam, but he was also very friendly and funny. The coffee and sugar bread were a nice touch for the chilly morning. Book this cruise. You won’t be disappointed.

Very fine trip - in a small boat with only 10-12 guests. Not just a generic trip where the landmarks is pointed out – but explanations with a personal touch on a personal level about how the Captains grandmother at 90 bikes after grocery etc etc etc or his view on taxation in The Netherlands his view on how it should be or not be. Agreeing or not agreeing but very very giving and interesting. Absolutely recommended

What a fantastic cruise We did a 4pm tour and we were offered a different time as there was a group of 9 booked but we still decided to go. Hassan was our guide and he was brilliant and we had a great time. There were unlimited snacks and drinks which really surprised me included in the cost. The tour was great and really informative but relaxed. Would highly recommend this to everyone.

This was a really nice small group experience. I saw a lot of large boats doing canal tours but this was a beautiful boat with a small group of nice people. I made some new friends and really enjoyed our host.

Fantastic guide and storyteller The boat captain was absolutely amazing at showing us details of the sights around the canals as we toured around as well as telling stories about the history of the city and how it expanded over the years. Highly recommend you take this tour!

There is nothing better than an experience with Captain Dave. You’re in for a treat with him. The experience is fun, educational, and brings people together. Jan, captain of Captain Dave Amsterdam, was amazing! We learned so much about the history of the canals and the city from Jan. He was very knowledgeable and shared many amusing anecdotes about the canals, suggestions for sites to see in Amsterdam, as well as which tourist traps to avoid.

We had the best time. The tour was super relaxing, full of incredible little facts and stories, and totally unique. Jan was an amazing captain who knew so many interesting things about the city. He was totally in tune with the guests, gave us plenty of time to take things in, but also provided delightful narration as we floated down the beautiful canals.

The canal tour was both highly educational and a lot of fun, in a most historic and beautiful boat and city! Loved the photos taken from the boat. Will definitely be back, and refer to friends visiting Amsterdam in the future.
