Did you know Giethoorn has no roads? People travel by boat through its canals, giving this Dutch town the nickname “Green Venice.” Starting from Amsterdam, you’ll pass through Flevoland and the beautiful Weerribben-Wieden National Park on our way to Giethoorn.
Once there, you’ll enjoy a 1-hour boat ride to take in the charm of this magical place, with its old thatched farms and wooden bridges. After that, you’ll have free time to explore, take pictures, and grab a bite at one of the excellent local restaurants (lunch not included).
On your way to Enkhuizen, you’ll stop at the port of Lelystad to admire the replica of the Batavia, a 17th-century galleon from the Dutch East India Company, and the famous Exposure statue by Antony Gormley.
You’ll then cross the Houtribdijk, a dam connecting Flevoland and North Holland, separating the Ijsselmeer and Markermeer lakes. Finally, you’ll visit Enkhuizen, a historic town from the Dutch Golden Age, where time seems to stand still. With its canals, bridges, and charming port, it’s one of the most beautiful towns in the Netherlands.
