This was an incredible tour, with a truly exceptional human! Captain Dave is knowledgeable, kind, and charismatic! He took time to explain many historical elements of Amsterdam, point out interesting facts along the route, and tailor our tour to our interests. This isn’t a large-boat tour - it’s a casual and intimate opportunity to hang out with a local who sails in the beautifully restored, historical Royal Jonckvrouw. Don’t look elsewhere, book this one!

I am so happy I chose Dave for the canal tour! He was timely, very friendly, and offered an insiders view of Amsterdam. His boat is very beautiful and provided great accommodations. I really appreciated his sense of humor while providing very interesting information about life and history of Amsterdam that I wouldn’t have otherwise heard. I would highly recommend Dave!

Highly recommended, it’s not like the official tours without any personal touch. Even though on Saturday it wasn’t Captain Dave who guided us, his colleague was extremely nice and could answer all of our questions. Hope he sees this picture!

Geweldige kapitein met veel humor en feitjes over Amsterdam. Netjes gevaren. We vierden het huwelijk van mijn broer, alles liep uit en hij deed enorm zijn best om ons te helpen en de boottocht aan te passen. Ik zou het aan iedereen aanraden!!

Captain Dave was great. Excellent and entertaining narrative of the canals and their history. Beautiful and very comfortable boat. Great value and would highly recommend.

So glad we found this tour and didn’t end up on one of those large “cattle truck” boats with the recorded commentary. Our cruise left at 0800, and whilst this seemed a tad early, it was actually the perfect time, we only saw 1 other boat and that was towards the end so the water was dead calm and flat and the reflections off the water were perfect. Our Captain was Hassan an Amsterdam native who was obviously intelligent and educated and a natural communicator, injecting humour into a very comprehensive narrative about his city’s past and present, the coffee was good and the cake delicious but the stand out was the boat the Royal Jonckvrouw, with only 12 passengers (from all over the globe) the warm cabin felt more like a lounge room than the tour bus that a bigger boat would certainly have been.

Was apprehensive about doing a canal tour, but this one exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend

Outstanding experience. My wife persuaded me to book the Captain Dave boat tour in Amsterdam, which was slightly more expensive than other providers. It was absolutely worth it. Captain Jan was a very attentive and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended!!!

We had a fantastic time with Captain Hassan cruising around on the historic Royal Lady. He was very informative and answered all our questions along the way. Our Captain was cheerful and energetic the whole ride and brought the history and culture of Amsterdam to life. It was awesome seeing the buildings and houseboats from the water and learning about how and why they were built and designed like that. There were snacks and an open bar provided too! This was the best thing I did in Amsterdam, and the dining and sightseeing suggestions at the end were amazing too.

This is a must-do experience for all first time visitors to Amsterdam! Even though it was cloudy during my trip, the sights from the canal were still magnificent, and the storytelling was top notch. We appreciated all the drinks and snacks provided to us as well. Next time I visit, I’m definitely doing this again!

Had a great time on the canal cruise with Captain Hassan. He was witty and informative. He provided wine and snacks. It was a great experience for the price.

Brought our two littles (5 and 3) and we all enjoyed! It was definitely more for an adult crowd, so children struggled to sit through the talking portion, but our captain did a nice job incorporating them. Drinks and snacks were great and we learned a lot!

Highly recommended, the ship was really comfortable, you can have drinks and snacks, and the tour is amazing (John was a great guide)
